The Big day is final here. NO I am not talking about my wedding day, for those of you who know me that may take some time (although Kali may have something to say about it). In less than 2 hrs the madness begins, and your bracket that you thought was perfect, will have more holes in it then Swiss cheese. The last two brackets have major heavyweights in Kentucky and Duke, but also could offer a heartfelt story with the Baylor Bears. It has upsets looming with the Saints of Siena and the Monarchs of ODU. I hope you have enjoyed my tips for the tourney; enjoy and best of luck to all in your office pools.
South Bracket
Teams with the most potential:
-#1 Villanova-Put Plainly the Scott Reynolds factor. Reynolds seems to have more eligibility than big women Doug has slept with (last count it was somewhere around 6), but his game just keeps getting better. Fisher, Stokes and Redding offer a deadly combo from the outside and Pena can give you a double double on the blocks. A dilemma the Wildcats seem to face every year is how will they handle a team that is bigger and more physical than them?
-#3 Baylor –The big 12 might have the top three teams out of any conference this year. Coach Ford has built off the success of last year’s squad by finishing third to Kansas and Kansas State in the Big 12. Probably a surprise 3 seed thanks to the injury to Robbie Hummel, but don’t sleep on the Bears. If they can get through to the Sweet Sixteen, look for them to cause problems for Nova and Duke.

Thanks for coming, better luck next year:
-#8 CAL-So just how bad was the PAC-10 this year? Well……your top two teams got an 8 and an 11 seed, some power conference huh? Cal got smoked by Syracuse and really only played good in conference. If they survive game one against Slick Rick, they will get pounded by The Dukies.
-#4 Purdue- Without the injury to Hummel this team would be in the Final Four. Moore and Johnson are both great players but are surrounded by garbage. When you score 11 points in a half of basketball you should have to pay back those poor fans that saw it and some more. The Boilermakers are going to have a tough time just making it out of the first round.
If the slipper fits:
-#7 Richmond-The Spiders are back in the dance for the first time since early 2000 and have a squad that could make a nice run to the sweet sixteen. Don’t expect to see a game in the 70 or 80’s when you play Richmond. If they can keep the GALs at bay in round one, don’t be shocked if they sneak by the Wildcats in round 2.
-#12 Utah St-Every year a 12 seed sneaks up and puts together a nice run to the sweet 16. This year the Aggies just might be that team. A good draw in round 1 against Texas A&M, I could see Utah State advancing a few rounds. No name on the roster will stick out too you, (no player scores more than 13 a game) but they can shut you down, holding opponents under 60 a game.
Upset Alert on High:
-#1 Duke vs. #9 Louisville-If Rick Pitino could play Syracuse every night he would be golden. He has already taken Cardinal teams to the final four and this just may be one of those sleepers. Coach K will never be out coached, but sometimes it comes down to flat out talent. Zubek is a big stiff and one bad shooting night for the Blue Devils and it is bye bye, seeya next year.
A Star is born:
-Kevin Anderson #14 Richmond-The A-10 player of the year put on a helleva show on the boardwalk in AC, but now must turn his game to the bright lights of the big dance. Richmond won’t be putting up huge numbers but this guy will almost certainly get a touch every time down the floor. If the game is close, look for Anderson to carry his Spiders into the Sweet 16 and maybe more.

GET the ladder out please, thank you:
-#2 Villanova-Down the stretch the Wildcats have been average at best, but a trip outside the rugged Big East is just what the doctor ordered. Nova causes match-up problems galore and with the experience of Reynolds they are a very deadly team. If both Duke and Villanova make it through to the Elite Eight, I think the Wildcats will be too explosive for the Blue Devils to keep up with.

~EAST BRACKET OUT ASAP~
