Greatest Ever?

Do you remember where you were on NFL Draft Day in April of 2004? I do, I was sitting in my dorm room, patiently waiting the Steelers first pick (amongst anguish over the fact, I was the only Freshman not traveling with the Zips baseball team), on that magical day, the Steelers took Ben Roethlisberger.

Do you remember who went ahead of Ben on that day? Let me help :Eli Manning, Robert Gallery,Larry Fitzgerald, Phillip Rivers, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow, Roy Williams, DeAngelo Hall, Reggie Williams, and Dunta Robinson. Only half of those players are still with the teams that drafted them, pointing to the fact, that the Steelers usually don't miss on their 1st round picks.

Yinzer nation has a weird relationship with Big Ben, bipolar is an understatement. When Ben started his career, fans wondered if he could win the big game (due to his terrible performance in the AFC Title game, against the Pats). During the 1st SuperBowl run, Ben's play was exceptional, (remember his performance against the Broncos in Denver), but the actual Superbowl game against the Seahawks, left fans with questions. "Dem Steelers need to run da bawl more." "Big Ben can't win a game, he can only manage da game." "Pittsburgh ain't a throwwwwnn tawn, it's a runninnnn tawn." Yinzers still couldn't believe that Ben could put the team on his back, without running like the Steelers teams of the 70's.

Next, he has had his embarrassing moments off the field, with less than stellar looking glory holes. First, their was the incident in Nevada (with a woman who hit every branch of the ugly tree), the Motorcycle, and when the Devil went down to Georgia. All three incidents brought no criminal punishment to Ben, only media speculation, and embarrassment. Listening to 93.7 the Fan when the last incident happened, was heartbreaking. 90 percent of the calls were fans saying to get rid of him, the commentators were calling for his head, everyone was against Ben.

Since then, he has rehabilitated his image, and most importantly won football games. Yinzer nation is still waiting for a terrible game, so they can turn, but not this Steeler fan. Even the NFL hates Ben. A four game suspension, when he received no charges. Meanwhile, Shaun Rogers is taking guns through airports, Braylon Edwards is getting Dui's, and one colts Punter, decided to take a swim in a downtown river, and they all got no suspensions. It's obvious Goodell dislikes Ben, the refs are apart of that Hate Train as well.

I understand that you can't blow the whistle when Ben is in the grasp, due to his ability to escape, but what about when a defender places their hand on the QB's helmet, or late hits, or shots below the knee. The refs don't like Ben either, maybe one of their daughters got Roethlisbergered.

Ben's mechanics are better than ever. He's got a better release, is more accurate with his throws on the run, and has incorporated two rookie receivers well with the offense. His defense has always given him a chance to be a playoff quarterback (which can't always be said for Manning, Rivers, Brady). Think about this , Ben's playoff record is better than Brady's and Manning's (two quarterbacks who put up huge numbers in the regular season). Manning and Brady both have offensive systems that are proven in the regular season, but something changes during playoff time. I am a firm believer, that there are 7-8 plays in a playoff game, that hinge solely on the quarterbacks play-making ability. Ben's a better play maker than Manning or Brady. Did I mention that the previous Superbowl Run, and this year's offensive line, is the equivalent to Four Helen Keller's and a Pouncey.

Manning and Brady wouldn't do half of things Ben does behind our O-Line, because Ben has the it factor. Does Manning have the it factor, if it means, a really good offensive system with a predictable Qb, than Yes. Ultimately, what I would like to see happen is, Ben win another Superbowl this year, than Brady versus Ben in the AFC Championship game next year.

I never saw Terry Bradshaw play, but today I will crown Ben the greatest QB ever in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Enjoy what your watching fans, because you will never see another QB like Ben, in the history of our franchise.

P.S. Please stop saying "Get rid of the ball Ben". It gets really old, honestly. You've probably never quarterbacked, coming from a 3 time self awarded Turkey Bowl MVP, you have no idea what its like being bum rushed....unless your someone who likes being bum rushed...but that has nothing to do with being a QB in the NFL, don't knock it till you try it!

  1. Goodell is a moron. By the same standard he held Ben to, Farve should have been suspended. If not by violating work place conduct then by the NFL's personal conduct rule. The owners need to visit this offseason and fire this joke. But there will be plenty of time to worry about this jag-a-loon and the jagoff yinzers talkin smack on Ben in the offseason. Lets worry about gettin a victory on Sunday against the Jets and how International Fetish Day might play a role in the Jets coming unprepared to Sundays game.
