This is the Year Folks!!!

Do you feel that? Do you see the transformations taking shape here in Pittsburgh? Are you ready to be part of the solution and not the problem?

You criticize Pirates management for the deals they make, and how Bob Nutting won't spend any money...well...Mr. Nutting and his band of merry men have spent some money this off-season.

Yes, most of these players are on the back end and don't mind doing a money grab in Pittsburgh, but without much risk on the Pirates end, these acquisitions could finally turn this tide.

It started with Veteran Catcher Rod Barajas. Yes, he is a career .238 Hitter, but he has some pop, stays decently healthy, and hopefully will spell the Fort as the backup.

Clint Barmes career was derailed by a freak grocery carrying accident...look at his numbers before that injury. You have to believe he and Clint Hurdle had a long talk about his health and a fresh start in Pittsburgh will jump start his career.

Erik Bedard has a career ERA of 3.70...pretty good for a free agent pitcher we acquired.

Nate McClouth will bring depth to the outfield as well as hopefully re-kindling his ability to hit...something he lost when he went to a more potent lineup in Atlanta...one year deal...little risk.

Nick Evans is a good utility player with a chance to make the club out of spring training...250 hitter who never got a full season in New York.

Jake Fox, got to believe he will compete for back-up position with Barajas out of spring training.

Casey McGehee will take Pedro's position if "El Toro" doesn't hit. He will also be able to play 1B...and except for a down year last year...he's been a very productive MLB hitter.

The Pirates have a great formula...win with youth, add players every year that can help them get over the hump...but if they start losing...they can trade those pieces away for more youth.

Trading away Veras means that Evan Meek is healthy, or that they trust Jason Grilli enough to be the set up guy...but I love getting rid of Veras, I never trusted him...and Hurdle didn't either.

No one else in the division has done much...Brewers signed Ramirez (but they will be without Ryan Braun for fifty games), Cardinals lost Pujols, Cubs and Reds have been idle, and the Astros are looking to shed payroll.

I just hope they trade away Marte or Hernandez...or both..to a team for a 1,2,or 3 Starting Pitcher...they've coveted those guys for too long. Where are they going to play in our outfield? At some point, the prospect status needs to be taking off of them.

I am buying my tickets for the playoffs tomorrow...if anyone would like to join me!!!
